What happens when you cancel

If you bought your website outright, we do not delete it. It is your property, so cancelling stops the hosting and care service — it does not take away the site you bought. On the monthly plans ($99 and $149) the build is included rather than bought, so those work differently; see below.

You keep the month you've paid for

Cancelling stops the next charge. Your plan runs to the end of the period you have already paid for, and nothing changes before then.

If you bought the build, you get a full copy of your site

On the day the plan ends we email you a complete copy of your website files. Hand that to any web host and your site goes straight back online. On a monthly plan the build is included rather than bought, so the files stay with us unless you buy the site out — but your own content is always yours on request.

Then the site moves to a holding page

Because hosting is what stops, the live address shows a temporary holding page instead of your site. We keep everything on our servers for 30 days afterwards, so if you restart the plan it comes straight back with nothing lost. After 30 days we remove it from our servers. If you bought the build, the copy we sent you is still yours permanently.

If a payment fails, nothing happens immediately

Cards expire; it's usually nothing. We email you, Stripe retries automatically over the next couple of weeks, and your site stays up the whole time. Only if it still hasn't gone through after all the retries does the site pause — and we warn you seven days before that, in writing.

Say the word and we'll help you move it rather than let it lapse. Reply to any of our emails, or message us on the site. We'd rather you left with a working website than a dead link.

Tell us before you cancel. We would rather work something out than switch off a business's website.

One difference: the monthly website plans ($99 and $149)

Every plan is month to month with no minimum term, including these — cancel here whenever you like. But these plans include the cost of building your site instead of charging $899–$3,500 up front, so while you are on one the website is licensed to you rather than owned by you. If you cancel, the site comes down and the files stay with us, because the build itself has not been paid for.

You can buy it outright at any time and then it is yours permanently, exactly as if you had bought it on day one. The price is the normal one-time price for your size of site, less everything you have paid on the plan in the last 12 months — so after a year on the plan there is usually very little left to pay. Ask us for today's figure.

Your own content is always yours either way: your words, your photos, your logo. Ask and we will send them over.

Not on a monthly plan?

If you bought a website outright with no $79/mo care plan, there is nothing to cancel — you were charged once and that was it. This page is only for customers on a monthly plan.

Billing is handled by Stripe. We never store your card details.
